Alloy 400 & K500 – Alloys in the Spotlight

header imageBoth Alloy 400 (Monel® 400) and Alloy K500 (Monel® K) deliver excellent corrosion resistance in environments containing:

  • Fluorine
  • Hydrofluoric Acid
  • Hydrogen Fluoride
  • Sulphuric Acid
  • Seawater

Although both alloys deliver similar corrosion resistance, Alloy K500 was developed for its greater strength and hardness. However this introduced a greater tendency for stress corrosion cracking in some environments.

alloy equation

The addition of Titanium and Aluminium to Alloy 400 makes age hardening possible.

Key Features of Alloy 400:

  • Excellent resistance to neutral and alkaline salt.
  • Resistant to caustic alkalis.
  • Resistance to stress corrosion cracking.
  • Good mechanical properties from sub-zero temperatures up to 548.88°C
